Doctors and teachers

Yesterday was Sofija's follow-up appointment for her bleeding ear. I was really looking forward to it because we've been dying to find out what happened to Pina. Sonny had his third interview at 2, and he finished just in time for us to leave at 3 and take her. We met up with Julia at the hospital, we got the kids and headed over to the second floor to see doctor Kevin Gilbert.

He looked in her ear and couldn't see a thing from the dried blood. I asked if he would try to clean it up to see what is wrong with my baby and he said he would. So Sofija and I went into another room with a big microscope so Dr Gilbert can look inside the ear and clean it. Sofija was very brave until he brought out the little vacuum. She was terrified of the loud sound in her ear (and I don't blame her), so we decided to stop so she doesn't get traumatized. He was able to see that her ear tube is still there (even though we were told by her pediatrician it wasn't there) and either an infection caused the bleeding or the tube. Either way we have to wait another week to find out.

Meanwhile in the exam room Sonny and Sam were having the time of their lives, Sam sat in the exam chair and Sonny raised it very high, then Sonny sat in it and Sam raised it very high. It sounds like it was very fun.

Sofija and I came back in the exam room with the doctor, he explained everything to Sonny and we were on our way home with another appointment scheduled for May 13th.

As we were driving home I realized that this week is teacher appreciation week, and even though originally we thought we should just give each teacher a $10 gift card, I decided to instead make them presents. I went to the good old dollar store and got 6-7 boxes of crayons, 3 star-shaped vases, some fake flowers and that foam thing that you stick the flowers in. I was going to use hot glue to glue the crayons on the vase. To make this more "genius" I peeled the paper from the crayons because I thought it'd look better. Well I should've realized this from the beginning... crayons melt from heat, so you can't use a hot glue gun to glue crayons on anything because they will melt... So I decided to not peel them anymore (I even bought a glass glue and it didn't work). I started gluing them with the wrappers on and it went pretty quick and it looked awesome. Then I put the foam inside the vase and started to put the flowers in. The end result - Beautiful flower vases!

After I finished all three (1 for Mrs. Van Ness, 1 for Miss Wilson and of course 1 for Miss Ulrich because even though she's not our teacher anymore, we love her very much), I started working on the cards. I found one design for my Silhouette machine and made 3 same cards. Sam wrote in all three and drew a picture.

  • Miss Ulrich had a heart and it said "I love you, you are pretty I miss you".
  • Mrs. Van Ness had a turtle and it said "Thanks for teaching me I like you"
  • Miss Wilson had a butterfly and it said "Thanks for teaching me I like you"

I took them today and the teachers loved them, especially Miss Ulrich.
